The Humantay lagoon is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Peru. It is one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in Cusco. Its turquoise waters crowned by the imposing Salkantay snow cap give it a unique beauty. Since the time of the Incas, this lagoon was worshiped by the Andean people. It is the third most popular tourist attraction in Cusco, after Machu Picchu and the Rainbow Mountain.
We start our excursion early in the morning, heading northwest; we travel in a private land transport for 2:30 h, towards the town of Mollepata, where we will have access to bath room services. Later we continue our ascent towards Soraypampa this is the place we will start the walk in direction the lagoon led by our tour guide. The walk (approximately 02 h) presents a degree of difficulty, especially in the last section of it (local community members offer horse service in case). Once in the Humantay lagoon, our guide will give us a complete explanation of the natural history of the lagoon, then we will have time to explore the place and take the best photos of Humantay.
It is time to have a delicious lunch and start the journey back to Cusco. On the way we will have a stop in a very interesting place called "Quillarumiyoq" which is an Inca complex with evidence of houses and ritual areas, but the most impressive thing about the place is the carving of a crescent-shaped figure. Many meanings were attributed to it but the truth is only known by its creators.
